January 30, 2012: Historic Savannah

This morning we awoke to a very cool 35 degrees morning but with clear skies. We headed out for breakfast in the Historic Distict and settled in at a place called "Goose Feathers". Very casual but very good.

After breakfast we walked the other part of River Street that we have not yet seen. That did not take long as it looked a lot like the part that we have already seen. Of course the girls had to stop off at a shop or two that they had not yet been in.

Then on to the Hop On, Hop Off Tram tour. Not overly exciting but it is a great way to see what is out there and have it narrated by someone that knows. We took the entire tour and then got off to venture out on our own.

We wandered into the City Market Area, looked around some and the began to look for lunch. Settled into the Moon River Brew Pub (only brewery in Savannah) for lunch. A light but good lunch for all.

After lunch we began our walk through the Historic District and visiting each of the squares. We read a lot of historical plaques and saw many many old historic home dating back to the 1700's. Pretty neat stuff and they have done a nice job of maintaining the restoration.

When we got to Forsyth Park we were stopped by a couple of young ladies who were on a school project for the Savannah College of Art and Design. They wanted a photo shoot of each of the 4 or us for a project. (See the photos of Ken D's shoot below). Of course we were great models for them

We continued our walk back toward home base with a stop at a local coffee shop for a Chai Tea for Kay and then later at Starbucks for Ken W. Eventually got back to the hotel at about 5 pm. We saw that the Vu Lounge overlooking the River Street area had Happy Hour specials and we have never passed up a special. We decided to have a light dinner of sharing appetizers and we got plenty.

We were up to our rooms by 7 pm for a quiet evening at home. Another big day to come tomorrow.
