An early start this morning as we are planning on attending Church at the 9 am service. We had a small breakfast at the hotel and then headed for Old Historic St. Augustine. We arrived plenty early so we went to St. George Street and found a little bakery. We all had coffee and shared a fresh Cinnamon Roll at the Bunnery Bakery. It was a busy little place for this early in the morning.
We attended the St. Augustine Basicilla Cathedral which is the oldest Catholic Parish in America, dating back to 1565. The building has been destroyed and rebuilt a couple of times but is a pretty neat old church. Nice services.
After church we moved along to the Old Fort for a tour of the interior. This is the oldest masonry fort in the US. It was extremely well designed and well protected. During several attempts over many years, this Fort never fell to defeat. It only changed ownership as a result of a change of regimes: Spanish, English to US. It was an interesting tour.
We made a brief stop by the Fountain of Youth but determine it probably wouldn't help at this stage so we move on north along the Atlantic Coast. We found theTPC Sawgrass Golf Club and stopped there for lunch on the patio.
After lunch we began the 6 ½ hour trek home, arriving at about 6:45 pm. The end of a nice road trip. It is good to be back "home" again in Miramar Beach and listening to the waves slapping the beach as we listened through our patio door. It is quite warm and also a bit on the foggy side. It looks like we might be closed in with fog and clouds for this week. But still very nice.
